Humantay Lake Tour, departures from Cusco

Humantay Lake Tour: Couple of years ago, only locals knew about the lake, then by 2014^th, only few tourist had the nice experience to see it, then; just couple of years ago became popular and now it is a site that is visited by about 500 people a day. The lake is located over 4200 meters above sea level, right below of Humantay Mountain “6,900 m”.

The lake Humantay means = (HUMA= Head, MANTAY = Mother, TAY = Sacred Meaning), then Humantay lake means “The head Matriarch Lake”, this is a glacier lake, formed by the ice melting water, that comes from the Mountain, with its beautiful blue green color, the snow on the mountain above, and the plants growing, gives a magic sensation to people who goes to see it.

As average, to see this mountain, there is needed an early departure, the you will drive through anta province, get a lover elevation by Limatambo, up to 2000 m, then take a narrow alphalted road to Mollepata town “2810 m, 9219ft”, above sea level, a place with perfect weather along the year, then continue by a dusty road for 1 hour and reach soraypampa, in a total of 3.5 hours.

From Soraypampa, the hike lead by a flat part for several minutes, then after crossing a white water river, you start with uphill walk, the uphill hike takes about 2.5 hours, then the train becomes steeper, and finally you will turn up a moraine, and see the huamantay lake, everyone is surprised when seeing this lake, Our group will stay here for about 30 minutes, then you can have time for pictures, group and individuals.

After photos, and enjoying the lake, you start descending to the transports park, our driver will drive back and get the lowest part of the trip, and stop in a proper place (Mollepata, or Rio Blanco), and stop for lunch. From this place, we will return all the way to Cusco arriving by 18:00 hrs, the Humantay lake tour, will end by taking you back to your hotel.
