Humantay lake tour: Couple of years ago, only locals knew about this lagoon, then by 2014th, only few tourist had the nice experience to see it, then; just couple of years ago became popular and now it is a site that is visited by about 500 people a day. The lagoon is located over 4200 meters above sea level, right below of snow coated mountain “6,900 m”.

The lake Humantay means = (HUMA= Head, MANTAY = Mother, TAY = Sacred Meaning), then the name of the lagoon means “The head Matriarch”, this is a glacier lake, formed by the ice melting water, that comes from the Mountain, with its beautiful blue green color, the snow on the mountain above, and the plants growing, gives a magic sensation to people who goes to see it.

As average, to see this mountain, there is needed an early departure, the you will drive through anta province, get a lover elevation by Limatambo, up to 2000 m, then take a narrow asphalted road to Mollepata town “2810 m, 9219ft”, above sea level, a place with perfect weather along the year, then continue by a dusty road for 1 hour, and reach soraypampa.

From Soraypampa, the walk leads by a flat part for several minutes, then after crossing a white water river, you start with uphill walk, the uphill hike takes about 2.5 hours, then the train becomes steeper, and finally you will turn up a moraine, and see the it, everyone is surprised when seeing this humantay lake.

Our group will stay here for about 30 minutes, then you can have time for pictures, group and individuals, then after photos, and enjoying the magnificent lagoon view, you will start descending to the transports park, our driver will drive back and get the lowest part of the trip, and stop in a proper place (Mollepata, or Rio Blanco), for lunch.

LIMATAMBO: A nice village and ravine, where palta forte, “avocado” grows and is exported to other countries, perfect weather for several kind of crops.

MOLEPATA: The last town on the way, above 2800 masl, has nice weather, the town itself is quiet, and also has some interesting archaeological site for people who wants to explore the site in an additional day; place for breakfast and lunch.

HUMANTAY LAKE: it is a glacier lake, below of a nice White Mountain, near by the Salkantay Mountain, scenic site and where you can find Pease and get natural energy recharging.


Day 1 Full Day

04:00 hrs: Pick up from your hotel; from here you drive towards west, pass by Anta flat ground, and arrive in to Limatambo ravine 1800 masl, a place where the mayor amount of avocados from Cusco is exported, then climb up to Mollepata 2800 masl.

  • 07:00 hrs: Time for breakfast at Mollepata. Semi-buffet breakfast available; this is a quiet town with a nice chill weather, after breakfast you continue to soraypampa where you start the hike.
  • 08:40 hrs: Once arriving to Soraypampa, you will have time to use toilets, then start hiking, you will walk for about 30 minutes by gentle flat ground, then walk by an uphill path for 2 hours.
  • 10:40 hrs: Once arriving to this wonderful lake, enjoy the view and get energy at the lake, take pictures and get relax, after that return to the buses parking.
  • 13:00 hrs: Drive back by the dusty ride, enjoying the wonderful landscape and arrive to Mollepata.
  • 14:00 hrs: You can lunch fresh and delicious food locally made, after lunch drive back.
  • 17:00 hrs: Arrival to Cusco, our transport will take you to a centrally located point, or up to your hotel if the transport is allowed to drive of to your place.
